July in NYC

This is my first attempt at fashion photography and I think it turned out pretty well! Thomas looks like a catalog model. So handsome! :)

(Unfortunately most of these NYC pictures were taken in RAW mode which means they would need more editing on the computer and I'm not exactly sure how to do that)

Theater: Kalkwerk

Thomas and I went into the city this past weekend to see a Polish play called Kalkwerk directed by Krystian Lupa and it was probably the best and most beautiful piece of theater I have ever seen! We were blown away. The music, lighting, and acting were superb and though I don't usually like long theater I was enthralled for all four hours of this play!

Beach Day

Funny face!

Thomas finally has a summer!

into the city

I wanted to chronicle a recent trip into NYC but things got dramatic later in the evening and I forgot about taking pictures. But it wasn't all bad! I really enjoyed the car ride! Eating pretzels and chatting with Allison :)

Artist: Felix Gonzalez-Torres

This is an artist I really like. He was Cuban born and is best known for his minimalist installations. Gonzalez-Torres was gay and a lot of his work relates to the loss of his lover Ross and his own experience with AIDS. I think 'loss' and 'disappearance' are really apparent in his work. For example, the strand of light bulbs that will eventually go out or the disappearing pile of candy on the floor (he invites the viewer to take a piece) or the screen of gold beads that you pass through and leave behind. It was difficult to capture the ethereal gleam of the strands of beads hanging from the ceiling at the Art Institute in Chicago, but I thought it had a real effect. I really enjoy this participatory element and the quiet sensibility of his work. Let me know what you think!
